Political elections have a way of splitting a country right down the middle.
I may offend every American with this post. Whether your candidate lost and you are mad or whether your candidate won and you are glad, you have a greater problem than politics.
Your bed is too short and your blanket too small.
That's a biblical way of saying your trust is in things other than the LORD.
Let me explain.
Isaiah (761 - 686 BC) warned the people of Judah that their trust was in everything but the LORD. He chastised them for taking refuge in political leaders and in believing the deceptive lies that economic collapse and death would evade them. The Jews had seen those horrific problems plague their northern neighbors (Ephraim), but they felt confident those same problems would not face them.
The Jews believed they were God's chosen people, and nothing like what happened to Ephraim could happen to Judah!
But Isaiah's message to Judah rang out with force and clarity (Isaiah 28). You may profess trust in the LORD, Isaiah said, but you don't possess trust in the LORD.
You are trusting anything and everything but Him! The reason the prophet knew the hearts of his people was because he felt the emotions of his people. He knew them to be smugly confident when things went their way, and saw them openly fearful when things didn't go as planned.
If your trust is in the LORD, you are confident of the future no matter the present.
Prophets speak for the good of the people, whether the people listen or not. The prophet's message is what the people need to hear. A true prophet is not silent when the people don't like his message. A prophet from God speaks because the principles conveyed are ultimately rewarding to the hearers, and he regards not whether the hearers are immediately receiving the principles conveyed.
To vividly describe the consequences of trusting in anything and everything other than the LORD, Isaiah summarizes succinctly and visually by saying:
"The bed is too short on which to stretch out, And the blanket is too small to wrap oneself in." (Isaiah 28:20 NASB)
When the OKC Thunder moved from Seattle, the Colcord Hotel changed out their beds. To entice visiting National Basketball Association teams to stay at the downtown Colcord, management replaced traditional beds with ones that were fifteen inches longer.
NBA players are tall. The Colcord knew that nobody likes sleeping on a bed too short.
You are restless on a bed too short. You are uncomfortable on a bed too short. You are often sleepless on a bed too short. You are tired the next day when you sleep on a bed too short. In short (pardon the pun), life is miserable when you sleep on a bed too short. You might not notice it immediately, but you'll darn sure feel it ultimately.
So too, when you have a blanket too small, you are cold. You feel insecure and unprotected from the elements. A blanket is a true refuge on a cold winter night. But when your blanket is too small, your problems are very large.
Isaiah tells the people of Judah that their lack of trust in the LORD is ruining their lives. The ancient prophet's message to Judah applies in 2021 to the people of America.
Trust in the LORD and nothing else today.

Wade,
I sent you an email that I missed your blog like crazy. So, you can guess how I feel to see it again.
I’m glad you gave what translation (NASB) to Isaiah 28:20. The NLT agrees: “The bed you have made is too short to lie on. The blankets are too narrow to cover you.”
Your right that people are glad if their candidate won, or mad if they lost. But in the last election, people are more than mad because they believe their candidate was cheated!
Did you see the ‘march on Washington’ yesterday and will happen today?
“Trust in the LORD and nothing else today.”
That sounds good but Hitler had on his soldier’s belt buckles: “In God we trust”. And remember the story of the guy refusing help because God was going to take care of him in a flood. When he complained to God why he had drowned, God said, I sent a boat, a helicopter etc.
Great comment Rex. Remember, the people sang to King David, "Some trust in chariots, and some trust in horses, but we will trust in the name of the LORD our God." Then their king got on his horse and led his chariots into battle. I'm not advocating non-involvement in politics (as you and others know), I'm only advocating trust in the LORD, not ballots, Presidents, governments, or anything else. For example, get a vaccine shot if you desire, but don't trust in it. Trust in the LORD. Vote for your preferred candidate, but don't trust in him or her, trust in the LORD.
I know you do.
Happy New Year, and thanks for the kind words about the blog.
Wade,
Thanks for encouraging words.
Too often I feel like a “PROFESSOR” and not a “POSSESSOR!!”
You help me focus on Biblical truth!
Keep on trusting YHWH!
Carl
Me and you both, Carl4grace.
Thanks for your humility, transparency, and grace.
Wade,
Have you seen what’s going on inside our Capitol TODAY? Hundreds are inside and “SHOTS FIRED”!
This is NOT the way to do it, but they believe like me, that Trump was cheated.
In Biden’s speech, he said Trump should tell the people they should go home.
Trump’s speech: “I know you believe we were cheated, but this is not the way to do it. Go home and go home in peace.”
Agreement. Go home is a good two words at this time.
One woman won’t go home. She’s in critical condition in a hospital from a gunshot.
far as I know, our elected servants will be STAYING this night to complete the people's business, as their work was only temporarily 'interrupted' by actions of the mob
proud of them ALL for staying in order to do their work in accordance with their oaths to protect the US Constitution
Americans all.
Thank God for those who served to protect them when the Capitol was under attack by the mob
REX RAY,
we do not know her story, but that woman has died - may God have mercy on us all
CHRISTIANE,
Yes, she has died. Have you heard there’s talk of impeaching Trump again?
The woman shot and killed inside the US Capitol this morning was from San Diego. Her name was Ashli Babbit. Married, she served four tours with the U.S. Air Force during her fourteen-year military career. Ashli was a high-level security official in the Air Force. Her husband told a San Diego news station that she loved her country. What will history say of Ashli Babbit?
I feel for her family. I don't agree with her actions, but I think you should know of her accomplishments.
Wade,
“What will history say of Ashli Babbit?”
Most of the people were peaceful in a protest for Trump being cheated outside the Capitol. A few broke the law by breaking into it. So far, eight have been arrested.
I hope Ashli didn’t die in vain.
CHRISTIANE,
How about a conspiracy theory why Ashli Babbit was killed?
There are pictures of men but not women breaking windows. I believe she was a peaceful protester.
It was reported: “Shots fired.”
Did police fire their guns? If so, did they shoot in the air to scare people?
Have police reported they were responsible for her death?
Was a bullet found in her body? If so, did it match guns of the police?
Was she shot more than once?
Were powder burns on her body?
Did she have any enemies?
I guess Congress taught the protesters a lesson. Hours after they stormed the Capitol, Congress ratified Joe Biden’s victory.

Wonder if their action was based on ego? ‘Nobody’s gong to tell us what to do!’
I believe we’re about to better empathize with the folks that Peter’s first epistle was addressed to. I believe that “true Christians “ are ablution to face increasing amounts of persecution from a culture/government which has clearly turned its back on God. This may bring about the repentance and humility needed to bring about the next awakening.
CHRISTIANE,
The link below did away with my conspiracy theory, as it states: “A woman was shot inside the Capitol by a police officer and later died…” (She might have been the leader.) I pray for her loved ones.

Looks like many Antifa and BLM in rush on Capital Building. Smells like a setup.
God is good, and can be trusted at all times!
well, we don't see 'antifa' unless you mean the white supremacists and neo-Nazis and Qanon folks complete with their horned shirtless 'shaman' in tow . . .
and there is evidence that these groups 'planned' for some months on social media to come to DC on Jan 6th, so I don't think the 'antifa' label is going to stick on these guys, no
time for some truth-telling? I certainly hope so.
I wish Trump would resign now and Pence could take over for the remaining thirteen days, but that would be too much to expect.
IF there had been any real solid 'evidence' of voter fraud that impacted the results of the election, that evidence would have been entered into the courts;
but there was none to speak of;
so maybe yesterday was the end of the 'crazy'. (?)
Sojourner, DT is not 'God's Annointed One', and he can't be trusted after having incited the attack on our nation's law-makers in the US Capitol. . . . but I think you know that, don't you?
Comes a point when people must take some responsibility for 'lashon ha ra' because 'the evil tongue' killed and wounded people yesterday in an attempt to disrupt the working of the legislators in following the US Constitution. It was a sad day for our country.
Yesterday was an 'epiphany' for many Republicans.
""We're the United States of America. We disagree on a lot of things, and we have a lot of spirited debate in this room, but we talk it out and we honor each other. Even in our disagreements. That person, that person, that person is not my enemy. That's my fellow American. While we disagree on things and disagree strongly at times, we do not encourage what happened today. Ever," said Senator Lankford."
Bravo, Senator Lankford, that took courage and shows character. Perhaps, having seen 'full trumpism' in action yesterday, those Republicans who realized the horror of it might be the ones who can re-make the Republican Party into an honorable and patriotic party restored to its 'better angels'. I hope so. Our nation needs a healthy two-party system and yesterday, the 'Party of Trump' was exposed for anything but healthy.
May we all look forward to better days with honorable people as public servants of the nation, not under the thumb of any demagogues who threaten and lie and incite violence against our own people. Yesterday's attack on the Capitol by Trump's supporters was a 'wake up' experience for many. Trump has no place to hide now. He was fully exposed.

What will history say of Ashli Babbit?
That she was a Qanon supporter who placed her trust in Donlad Trump's lies, and died for them.

I read an interesting quote from Peter Beinart, this:
"As Americans have left organized religion, they haven’t stopped viewing politics as a struggle between “us” and “them.” Many have come to define us and them in even more primal and irreconcilable ways."
so I began to consider if there was something in this quote that helped to explain 'why' so many evangelical people were drawn to politics, in particular the kind of politics that thrives on 'dividing' 'us versus them'.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this that they care to share with me, as I am trying to work out if there is some kind of connection here that is meaningful?
So far, I do know that IF in the evangelical community, you get an aberrantly fierce one-off group that goes 'overboard' on the finger-pointing exclusiveness, that group will be rejected by the whole evangelical community;
as in the case of the Westboro Baptist Church - so shockingly extreme as to be a pariah to the rest of the evangelical groups.
But what about when the evangelical community gets involved in politicals where a political leader goes so extremely rogue that the evangelical community might just 'reject' that political leader OR
leave the evangelical faith and instead adopt the rogue political leader as a cult figure?
That word 'irreconcilable' at the most 'primal' levels goes so against anything Christian that I am thinking that people of faith need to be wary of rogue extremists political figures who might draw them away from Christ and into a cult of personality around the political figure. . . . . some thoughts that give me a bad head-ache :)
Hello Sojourner,
We SAW the film of the 'take-over' so I'm going to believe my eyes. Maybe you do not watch television news? It was all over the news networks. The pictures. The Trump flags, the Qanon t-shirts and sweatshirts, the confederate flag being carried in the Capitol, the Q-anon 'shaman' with the horned head-dress who was bare chested. . . .
we SAW and HEARD Trump say he would be 'with them' as they went down Pennsylvania Ave. to the Capitol building (although he got into his limo and went back to the White House to watch the melee on telly.)
Sojourner, when people SEE and HEAR what is taking place, it is hard to convince them that there is some 'other' reality or truth they missed.
We saw and we heard. 'Nuff said.'
CHRISTIANE,
“We saw and we heard. 'Nuff said.”
Did you see the large group of peaceful protesters, and a small group of ‘evil’ people that have come to events like this before; the ones climbing walls, smashing windows, fighting police etc.?
Or did you see only what you wanted to see (Trump bad; Biden good)?
Hello REX RAY
here is a mystery for you:
https://www.militarytimes.com/news/your-military/2021/01/08/maryland-governor-describes-delayed-permission-to-send-national-guard/
the senators and representatives were hunkered down in hiding while the Capitol was being invaded by the mob and Rep. Steny Hoyer called Maryland gov. Larry Hogan on the phone and asked him if Hogan could send some Md. national guardsmen to deal with the mob which by then had overwhelmed the Capitol police.
But there was A PROBLEM !!!!
and I can bet that there will be a full investigation why the Pentagon did not give permission in a timely manner. . . . knowing that the Capitol was overrun and our representatives were in danger already for over an hour
Now THAT is a REAL mystery for you. It really happened. People were injured and people died during that attack. One rep. said she called her family to say 'goodbye' just in case she might be killed, so we are talking 'domestic terrorism' here.
REX RAY,
you need to start widening your sources of information if you don't know about these occurences. Fox News is struggling now and the other news media are showing a lot more of the video tapes which I think you might want (and need) to see. It is a very sad business and very frightening, but it is better to face it for what it is:
Trump went coup-coup. (sorry for pun, but he has not behaved in a rational manner lately, no.
There's more:
The mob that attacked the Capitol were not 'protesters', REX RAY.
Trump needs to resign, or be removed from office as he is on record for having encouraged this attack on the nation's Capitol and our legislators AND the Vice President !
Trump is not fit for the office of POTUS. It would be wrong not to hold him accountable for what he has done.
The Republican Party needs to handle this by invoking the 25th Amendment which would remove Trump from office and replace him with Pence for the next twelve days time.
CHRISTIANE,
I read all that you said, but you need to know there were TWO days of protest.
I made a comment to Wade on 1-6-21: “Did you see the ‘march on Washington’ yesterday and will happen today?
The thousands of protestors were peaceful the first day on 1-5-21, but on the next day the Proud Boys showed up as the link below states.
https://www.capradio.org/articles/2021/01/06/trump-supporters-proud-boys-converge-on-californias-capitol-to-protest-electoral-college-count/
The Proud Boys are BAD. Trump condemned them a long time ago.

CHRISTIANE,
By the way, I know of eight people that think they’re sick with COVID-19, but none got a flu shot.
I’m going to bed.

Christiane, I deleted my prior comment when I realized I should’ve qualified a couple statements differently.
More growing evidence that Antifa involved in rioting.
https://trendingpolitics.com/breaking-rep-mo-brooks-says-evidence-growing-antifa-orchestrated-assault-on-capitol-building/
“On the night of February 27, 1933, a fire was set in the German Reichstag, the national parliament. It burned a significant portion of the structure. Many historians state Hitler’s people set that fire—which at the time was successfully blamed on his main political opponent, the Communist Party. The tactic allowed Hitler to consolidate his final needed piece of national power.
Alongside the endorsement and support of IG Farben, the biggest pharmaceutical and chemical cartel in the world, the Reichstag false flag gave Hitler control over the fate of Germany.
False flags do work.”
https://blog.nomorefakenews.com/2021/01/06/was-the-assault-on-the-capitol-building-a-false-flag/
good morning, Sojourner
does this help:
https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/jan/07/mo-brooks/mo-brooks-claim-antifa-orchestrated-capitol-riots-/
From your link, Christiane:
“We’ve found no credible reports that people who identify as antifa “orchestrated” the riots at the Capitol”
Sounds like Bill Barr and the FBI saying they didn’t see any evidence of election fraud to investigate. Well, you can’t see when you don’t look. 🙂
“Do you not have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don't you remember?” Mark 8:18
Sojourner, you need to find out more about the term 'credible evidence'. Why?
Because in THIS country, we are governed by the 'rule of law' and if there IS 'credible evidence' as to something suspicious, it can be entered into a court of law to be examined.
But where there is no 'credible evidence' and all is accepted on hear-say, you can find yourself getting into conspiracy theories where you become 'owned' by the lies you think are true. And if you take action based on the hear-say, and it was meant for evil agendas, then you must still be held accountable legally for harm you may have done to property or lives.
'The Rule of Law'. . . . when all else was failing, our courts held up and our country did not go into a fascist state based on lies.
Do some homework and read about 'the rule of law' and 'credible evidence' and WHY it was that the courts wouldn't touch Trump's claims because of the lack of solid proof aka 'credible evidence'. It's been an education for all of us.
Sojourner,
this girl seems like a nice enough person, but listen to what happened to her when she fell for conspiracy theories and lies and got into trouble in DC:
https://www.tmz.com/2021/01/06/woman-maced-pepper-spray-storm-us-capitol-revolution/
I think a lot of good people bought into the lies and conspiracy theories and became manipulated by those who told them: 'hey, let's you and them go fight' and all the while the instigators sat back and enjoyed the show on television. I think the worst penalties legally should be imposed on the instigators who manipulated people into attacking the Capitol and our representatives.
OTOH, I'm very certain that we all need to take more responsibility for examining our sources of information so that we don't get manipulated into someone else's 'agenda' through their lies. We are responsible for what we decide to do and say, but an awful lot of folks have trusted in those that have used them and betrayed them. This trust in the wrong people has led to great harm being done as a result. We need to use discernment.
“Woe to the land whose king is a child…” (Ecclesiastes 10:16 Living)
Woe to America whose President has mental problems; Biden (Catholic) forgot how to pronounced Psalms. He called it Plams which is only one of many mistakes.
I believe it won’t be long until America has a woman President.
reading and watching a wide variety of news sources is extremely important. Try some very reputable, non-partison ones, like NPR, AP
When you only read things on Parler or Fox News or MSNBC, then you will hear things that range anywhere from biased to wholly untrue.
oh, and I agree with everything that Christiane wrote. Faith leaders need to speak up and against this president. they sided with him for far too long, even when they knew he was not above reproach.
This piece by Ann Voskamp is excellent and speaks well to how the church should respond.
https://annvoskamp.com/2021/01/in-days-like-these-what-allegiance-to-the-king-looks-like-about-nationalism-syncretism-evangelicalism/
NPR is reputable? Follow the money and you should arrive at a vastly different conclusion.

Jen,
You’ve heard it before: “I’m not arguing with you; I’m explaining why I’m right.”
It’d be OK if you had downgraded “fake news” but you listed Fox news. That’s the news Obama hated. I can’t think of any higher recommendation for Fox than that.
Have you read the 490-page book? “The Worst President in History the Legacy of Barack Obama” It list 1193 ‘bad things’ such as:
“Democrats lost over 1,000 seats under Obama.”
“State Department hid Clinton Benghazi email from Judicial Watch.”
“Obama’s false racial claims are putting police lives in danger.”
“Muslim Brotherhood met with White House Officials in DC.”
“If you like your health care plan you can keep it.”
“Obama Administration reaches Syria weapons deal with Russia.”
“Obama told Military Leaders to accept Gays in the military or step down.”
“Obama’s operation “Fast and Furious” of sending 2,000 guns into Mexico backfired as many guns were ‘lost’ and later used to kill 150 Mexicans and some of our border guards.”
Trump had ‘corrected’ Obama’s ‘dealings of Israel in the UN, before we went on a tour of Israel with Wade. I told him I was glad because I’d hate to have the Jews angry with us.
The link below shows Babbitt being shot.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/2021/01/08/ashli-babbitt-shooting-video-capitol/
REX RAY,
here is a picture of an American patriot in the Capitol building who has served in our military and is now still serving his nation in a new way:
https://indianexpress.com/article/trending/trending-globally/congressman-andy-kim-joins-clean-up-efforts-at-capitol-after-attack-photos-go-viral-7138042/
I needed to see that picture of Congressman Andy Kim on his knees helping to clean up after the mob with his own hands. That gives me hope in some way I don't have words to express.
We are all the better for such people with their quiet witness for healing and renewal, and for me, that picture of Andy Kim is a blessing.
We do what we can, when we can, and now we know more than we did before about what trumpism is and what it isn't. Let's take some responsibility to find out who the real heroes are and why the handwriting on those shirts and hoodies were not messages of 'truth' but of a horror we have seen before in another country where millions of innocents were murdered by a cult leader. We must never forget because the evil has returned and it has shown itself in our halls of power in ways destructive of the work of the US Constitution.
REX RAY,
I found some info about Ashli Babbitt. I think she was someone who trusted in Qanon conspiracy theories and believed Trump's statement that his election had been 'stolen', although he had no 'credible evidence' he could present to ANY of the nation's courts of law. He was not supported in his claim by our nation's judicial system, no.
Some of this information is so sad, because Ashli Babbitt had served our country and I think she probably still felt that she was doing 'the right thing' attacking the Capitol building because of her faith in the Q-anon pro-Trump conspiracy theories. I see her as a victim of Trump and of Q-anon. It's very sad she died as she did as another of many victims of the trumpist evil, in my opinion:
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jan/07/ashli-babbitt-woman-shot-and-killed-in-storming-of-us-capitol-named
CHRISTIANE,
AH, my favorite pastime, arguing with you. 😊
“You said Trump had no credible evidence he could present to the nation’s courts of law.”
Trump had plenty of evidence but no courts of law would hear him.
You sent a link showing a Congressman picking up trash on the floor of the Capitol building.
I’d rather see a picture of Ashli Babbitt’s blood being removed from the floor. She could hardly be seen in the mob of men. The shooter must have taken good aim to hit her in the throat.
I believe her death will champion the cause that someday will reflect the words of Jesus: “…you will know the truth…” (John 8:32) and there’s words of a song: “…someday we’ll understand it; all bye and bye.”
Besides being murdered, Trump has ‘suffered’ more than any President in the history of America. Plans to impeach him were made before he was elected.
I believe he was hated because he wasn’t ‘one of them’. He wasn’t a politician. There was none of this ‘scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours’ which interrupts to; back what we want done, and we’ll back some of what you want done.
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/11/09/republicans-free-fair-elections-435488

I’m very much one of those.
Hey REX RAY,
it is good to hear that you are well enough to haggle, and I am glad you have not fallen victim to the virus
As you know, I am in support of three equal branches of government in a 'checks-and-balances' design which is laid out in the US Constitution,
so I stand by our courts of law when they had no 'credible' evidence presented to them by Trump's lawyers.
I think at best, Trump is mentally unstable and cannot accept reality, which this week has got him into a boatload of trouble as someone who instigation an insurrection against our legislators who were at work in the Capitol. As you know, five people died in the attack.
Here is one report that I can make some sense of:
https://www.usnews.com/news/top-news/articles/2021-01-06/trump-supporters-crowd-into-washington-to-protest-congress-certifying-bidens-victory
REX RAY, feel free to believe whatever you want to, but like I told Sojourner, people have eyes to see and ears to hear, and Trump went 'full trump' encouraging people to march down Pennsylvania Ave. to the Capitol building. His rhetoric was very strident and it looks like these people who attacked the Capitol and the police took Trump at his word.
Very bad scene. I think you can agree.
I think first, Trump should resign NOW. If he will not, Pence might call for the 25th Amendment to be put into effect NOW. And if nothing is done by Monday, I think Ms. Nancy has no choice but to commence articles of impeachment on the grounds of inciting violence against our legislators. Nothing else makes sense to me.
He needs to answer for what he has done. He's been given a pass too often for some very egregious behaviors. He is not fit for office. He was always a narcissist but now he appears to be unstable and unable to make good decisions. He needs to 'go'.
He will continue to hold rallies and preach to the extreme right, but his 'power' that was vested in his 'oath' to preserve and protect the Constitution will no longer be profaned.

😊
I don't believe for a second that Trump is unstable. He and only he told the lies over and over that the election would be rigged, that it was rigged, that he won the election. Our election officials are honorable people across this whole nation. Every state has robust procedures for counting and certifying and court remedies for challenging. Trump exhausted those, and deliberately incited that crowd, though it is basically impossible to prove. He also told those Proud Boys to Stand back, and stand by. On national television. He has a playbook and he's using it. I weep for our country and the American church.
I like to sleep with my legs popping out of the blanket some times.

Shari,
You said, “Trump told those Proud Boys to Stand back, and stand by.”
Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Trump condemned Proud Boys a long time ago:
