Trent and Thad Luckinbill are natives of Enid, Oklahoma, grew up at Emmanuel Enid, and now live in California earning a living producing movies. Thad, an actor in his own right, made the transition into the production side when his twin brother, Trent, left Washington, D.C. to go to California and join his brother in the movie business. They have teamed up with Ron Howard (director) and Reese Witherspoon (actress) to tell the story of the Lost Boys of the Sudan via film. The movie, The Good Lie, opens October 3, 2014.

I have written before that cheesiness in Christian films does more harm to Christianity than people realize. The Lost Boys is not an overtly Christian film, but it is a movie made and produced by people with a strong Christian faith, and a message that is definitely Christian. Unlike other films in this genre, The Good Lie is produced by professionals who understand that stylistic art is needed in order to make a first class film.
The Good Lie is first class, all the way. It is a great movie about a glorious story. The Good Lie is a fabulous, fresh, funny, family-friendly film (how do you like that alliteration?) that reminds us why we love movies so much. Cinematography will always grab the heart and impress the message into the core of one's being more than print media. You'll walk out of The Good Lie never looking at refugees, refuge camps, and international aid-- or more importantly, the dignity of all humanity -- the same again.
Get out and see this movie. For those in Enid, The Good Lie opens on Friday, October 10, and discount tickets to any of the 15 weekend showings (Friday through Sunday, October 10 through 12) will be available after all three morning services in the HUB at Emmanuel Enid.

Speaking of which, have you seen "Moms' Night Out"? It was made by the Erwin Brothers, sons of Hank Erwin, who is an FBC Pelham member and friend. He used to be a Christian talk show host here, and also a state senator.
It's hilarious. And, I have en extremely brief blurry appearance as an extra.

WADE, thanks for the heads-up on this film . . . I saw the trailer and I can't wait to see it.
Every now and then, a film DOES come that celebrates the Good News in a way that people 'get' and in some cases, lives are changed for the better . . .
the film 'The Blind Side' had that effect, and I suspect this new film will also open eyes to the possibilities of vibrantly living out the love of Christ that we keep within us

what well-spoken young men they are and since they grew up at Emmanuel-Enid, I was thinking there might be more than just 'luck' (sorry for pun) in their involvement in this film . . . it wouldn't surprise me at all if Providence had a hand in guiding them to this good work :)
Christina: They have wonderful parents. Both are heavily involved in the church, mission trips, choir, etc. Both love each other and Christ deeply. And they had a fine pastor. :)
DEBBIE, Wade's example of standing up for people who need help seems to be going out into the world through his flock . . .
glad these young men were grounded with a strong sense of 'caritas' in the name of Christ,
teachers are often told that their work 'touches the future';
surely the same can be said for the effects of good Christian ministry . . . all the more when the young of a Church are 'sent forth' into the world to love and serve Christ
I know this is a little off topic, but some of the stories read here like this one, and Wade's wife Rachelle becoming a doctor is what happens when you don't give a bunch of morality sermons, but give people Christ and Christ alone, then let them fly without a bunch of rules and telling congregations what they can and cannot do, but trust the Holy Spirit to do the work in them.
With no limits put on us, we allow God to use as and guide us, great things can happen. This is just one of many examples of letting grace and freedom in Christ to be the theology.
I went to see "The Good Lie" today. I agree that it is a "glorious story", but I would not call a movie that uses God's name in vain a "great movie." It certainly is not a Christian movie. There is no gospel in it. It was also disappointing that the lady who is helping her church relocate the refugees drinks a little alcohol with the lady who is obviously not a Christian. Again, it is a glorious story, but I would not recommend to any of my Christian friends.
