"I Am Not Dumb Now"

The very rare HD footage above is of Helen Keller speaking and it is astonishing on several fronts. What strikes me most is the wisdom, perseverance and ingenuity of Keller's teacher Anne Sullivan. Helen Keller would become world famous for her political activism before her death, but Anne Sullivan has been almost forgotten by the American public. Behind every world changer is a mentor, and Helen Keller's teacher is one worth imitating. She once said, "Keep on beginning and failing. Each time you fail, start all over again, and you will grow stronger until you have accomplished a purpose - not the one you began with perhaps, but one you will be glad to remember."

I love the story of Anne Sullivan and Helen Keller. I read Helen Keller's biography in grade school and became enamored with both these women.I have viewed the Patty Duke/Ann Bancroft movie on Helen Keller too many times to count. What a great video.

Two women who had a significant influence on my life were Helen Keller and Corrie ten Boom, who toured the world, separately, in the 1950's. Their remarkable strength of character, depth of human spirit and outstanding achievements, fired up a younger generation of students to determine a cause and a course for their lives. I shall ever be grateful for the memory of their respective visits to our campus, and I thank you for the video clip.
