Happy 4th of July, Mosab Hassan. Welcome to America!

Mosab Hassan Yousef, son of the founder of Hamas and author of "Son of Hamas," has been granted temporary political asylum in the United States. Mosab spoke at Emmanuel, Enid last year and his testimony of faith in Christ was powerful, his humility endearing, and our church family was greatly impacted by what Mosab had to say about Jesus Christ and what it means for genuine Christians to love their enemies. We sent several hundred signatures on a petition to Homeland Security requesting our government grant him asylum. Mosab's U.S. attorney, Steve Seick, sent me the following email this afternoon:

Wade -

I would like to thank you for the tremendous support you gave to Mosab. I am certain that the letter you wrote and the petitions you circulated contributed greatly to the decision by the Department of Homeland Security to agree to granting him asylum. Without your help and prayers, this may have ended much differently.

Although I'm just a backwater lawyer in southern California, if there is ever any way I can repay the generosity of spirit you and your church have shown, I would be pleased to do so.

Steve Seick

We are grateful for Steve's legal efforts in helping Mosab, and we are thankful for the decision of Homeland Security. Our government has done right in this decision! Happy 4th, Mosab, and welcome to America!

In His Grace,

Wade

I saw the news yesterday on the web (Fox or CNN) from here in Malaysia. Very glad! The US gov't did the right thing. I can't help but wonder why it took so long, and why it took petitions, letters, and editorials to change minds at the CIA and Immigration Dept. But at least they listened.

Interesting that Geisler is his public apologist. This makes total sense. Liberty does not have to do it, Geisler will use his name and influence to do it and that should be the end of it. The only problem is that Geisler has lived in the protective bubble too long. It only makes one want to question his scholarship if he that easily duped.

Depending on your perspective the story of Yousef is either a tragedy or triumph. The Hamas and Shin Bet organizations both have a record of kidnapping, torture and assassination. As a Christian I could not be associated with either group.

Yousef's father, while in an Israeli prison, disowned his son for spying for Israel: "I, Sheikh Hassan Yussef... my wife, sons and daughters announce that we have completely disowned the man who was our oldest son and who is called Mosab". Source - Wikipedia.

It is evident that Yousef has made many difficult choices regarding his family and people. I pray he will be able to look back when he is an old man and be at peace with himself.

Amen to that. And so should we all wish to remain in Christ's peace for all of our days.

Mosab has a new family now among Christian people, and a home in the 'New World'.

That is good.
