As Predicted a Presidential Runoff: Bryant Wright and Ted Traylor

Out of 10,944 messengers there were 9,318 presidential ballots cast. The top two vote getters for President of the Southern Baptist Convention were Bryant Wright (pictured left) and Ted Traylor (pictured right).

Runoff election Tuesday night. Without the support of additional nomination speeches, it looks like the Florida pastor has the advantage (Traylor).  I would predict with national online voting the outcome would be different.

  1. You probably owe someone dinner over this one, Wade. Bryant Wright elected with 55-point-something percent of the votes.

I suppose the next logical question is, who's Bryant Wright.

Side note: Someone pass Les Puryear a Xanax!

  3. martyduren tweeted a good question on twitter tonight: "Lemme get this straight: #GCR affirmed w/stronger CP giving. Wright elected president whose church gives less to CP each year. Huh?" Now to go do my homework on this one.

  5. My guess is, the folks thought Les said Jerry "Drake" and knew they did not want to vote for Wiley Drake's relative.

  6. so 10000 + show up for a fight for the GC. ironic that we are fighting to affirm what we are suppose to do anyway. But less than 1/3 are here to pray and stand for the imb and nations. yea a real GC heart.

  8. I heard that Bryant Wright is a "gasp" egalitarian. I mentioned that possiblity to my SBC, patriachial, FBCJax deacon husband and he (my husband) almost had an apoplexy!! Hee - hee. I hope it's true, about the egal part that is.

  9. It is hard to take anything said about the cooperative program on the podium of the SBC serious. Many of the members of the GCR task force swearing their love for the cooperative program have led their churches to give less and less to the CP either in total dollars or percentage giving.

Bryant' support for the cooperative program is no less than Ronnie Floyd's or Danny Akin or Al Gilbert's.

Must have been a rumor planted by his opponets campaign people. It happens.

    That is hysterical.

  11. My smaller SBC church is CARRYING---in terms of percentage of undesignated gifts passed along to the CP---the larger SBC churches pastored by those standing on the platform of the annual meeting. Those guys don't know it---and they also do not care. Now, that's sad---and it's also life in the SBC today. Welcome to it (?).

Hey guys, give Les a break. I think he was right on about the CP and GCR.

Now the state conventions need to figure out how much of a shortfall they're going to have once the cooperative agreements with NAMB phase out. How about instead of a 60/40 split, the states consider a 70/30 or 80/20 to cover the shortfall?
